Background
For the past nine years, Ms. Seruto has worked in research and consulting, investigating sources and effects of environmental degradation. She has researched the effects of contaminants on various biological systems, from nutrient dynamics in kelp forest ecosystems to liver biotransformation of specific compounds and their resulting toxicology. In the industrial sector she has worked to project and/or mitigate the effects of contaminants and clean up environmental plumes through mechanical and biological means. She has conducted ecological risk assessments for mining and oil exploration operations, and worked to remediate results of metal and organic contamination at various sites across the country. She holds an undergraduate degree in aquatic ecology from the University of California, Santa Barbara and a Master’s degree in environmental toxicology from the University of California, Riverside. She continually seeks to create compelling reasons for the use of sound alternatives to ecologically harmful and persistent compounds throughout the spectrum of industrial to individual applications.
