Awards and Recognition

Selected LEED Certified Projects:

ENERGY STAR Awards:

Every year, the US Environmental Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) honor organizations that have made exceptional contributions to the environment through energy efficiency. RMI has been honored with multiple Energy Star Awards for excellent displays of sustainable design consulting. Recent awards include the following projects:

Wisconsin Energy Conservation Corporation (WECC)

The new WECC office building houses over 80 employees working with government agencies, utilities, and energy consumers to deliver cost-effective energy-saving strategies. A 19-kW, roof-mounted photovoltaic system is expected to provide 39 percent of the building’s electrical load. RMI provided sustainable design consulting and comprehensive LEED coordination for the building, which, when certified, will be the state’s first LEED Gold building.

The WECC building has received a LEED Gold certification under Version 2.1 of the New Construction Rating System.

University Memorial Center (UMC)

The expansion and renovation of UMC has served as a pilot green building project on the University of Colorado Boulder campus. The renovation consisted of adding roughly 50,000 square feet of new space and renovating another 136,000 square feet. RMI/ENSAR assisted in the initial design of the addition and most recently assisted UMC in earning a Silver rating under the LEED for Existing Buildings Rating System. UMC is the first building on Boulder’s campus to receive a LEED certification.

Sustainable Buildings Industry Council (SBIC) Award:

On January 16th,2008, Rocky Mountain Institute received the first place “Beyond Green Award”, presented by the Sustainable Buildings Industry Council for the short film entitled High Performance Building: Perspectives and Practice. This unique SBIC program recognizes initiatives that shape, inform, and catalyze the high-performance building market, as well as the real-world application of high performance design and construction.

Kigali Conceptual Master Plan:

As part of a team led by OZ Architecture, RMI provided sustainable development guidelines for the buildings, energy, and transportation infrastructure for conceptual master planning efforts for the City of Kigali, Rwanda. This project won two awards from the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) Colorado and one from American Institute of Architects (AIA) Colorado, as follows:
